Work
Web design /development 2002-
In 2003, after two years of making sites as a hobby, I got my first paid contract: from my manager, who was leaving to set up a shop. Since then, word of mouth recommendation has kept a stream of work coming in, and in 2006 I took the plunge and became a full time freelancer. I have built sites for local businesses, NGOs, photographers, artists and local bands, developing the communication skills required for working with clients through all stages of website production.
For the past 8 months I have been contracting in London, primarily focusing on Drupal development and theming.
Recent clients:
Natural History Museum Building Species pages in Drupal - launching soon.
Open Democracy Developing custom Drupal modules.
Rareface Rebuilding www.infieldparking.com and www.playboymodel.co.uk in Drupal.
Help The Aged building micro-sites and HTML email newsletters.
Find A Driving Instructor Site design and build.
Food Ethics Council Built in Drupal.
Warren House Bed and Breakfast Site design and build.
Seeboard
When I joined Seeboard in 1999, the utilities market had just been liberalised and the company was in a state of flux. I became fully involved in developing new processes to accommodate the new market conditions. With the company’s support and training I continuously developed the skills required to build more efficient systems.
In 2001 I led a small team to transfer the department’s reporting from Excel spreadsheets to an MS Access database. In 2003 Seeboard was taken over by EDF Energy, and I was chosen as my team’s representative to assist the convergence of the two companies’ processes. In 2005 I created a departmental intranet to help disseminate information.
Brighton Peace and Environment Centre 2005
For my PG Dip project, I helped BPEC redesign and rebuild their website in Drupal. This involved interviews with staff to determine site content; usability studies for key users; mapping the content; and producing wireframes, as well as liaising with the lead developer to implement the changes.
